RV AC Thermostat Compatibility Guide: Which Thermostat Works with Your Unit?
Posted by RV AC Guys on 27th Oct 2026
The short answer
An RV thermostat has to match your air conditioner's control system, not just its brand. Two Dometic thermostats can look alike and not work with the same unit, and the same goes for Coleman-Mach. Before you order, you need to know three things:
- Your AC's model number (rooftop unit and ceiling assembly). See how to find your RV AC model number.
- What the thermostat controls: cool only, cool plus furnace, heat strip, or heat pump.
- Single or multi-zone: one AC, or two or more ACs on one thermostat.
It also helps to know the part number of the thermostat you have now. It's usually on the back, so pull it off the wall (with the power off) and take a photo of the back and the wiring.

Heat strip vs. heat pump vs. furnace
- Furnace control: the thermostat also runs your RV's gas furnace.
- Heat strip: an electric heating element in the AC adds a little warmth to the air. It's mainly for taking the chill off on cool days, not for heating the RV in cold weather.
- Heat pump: the AC runs in reverse to heat. It's a different unit, and it needs a thermostat built for heat pump control.
A thermostat built for one of these usually won't run the others, so pick the one that matches the equipment you have.
Dometic thermostats
Dometic has several thermostat families that are not interchangeable:
- Single-zone CT (capacitive touch) thermostats. These come as kits that include a control board, and they're sold by function: 3316230.700 (cool/furnace), 3316232.700 (cool/furnace/heat strip), 3316234.716 (cool/furnace/heat pump) and the Bluetooth 3316230.714.
- Single-zone CT wall thermostats such as 3316250.700 (white) and 3316250.712 (black). Note that the 3316250.700 can't control a furnace unless a Dometic AC is in the system, and it doesn't have Bluetooth.
- CCC2 (Comfort Control Center 2) and FreshJet systems. The 9610007991 works with Dometic units that have CCC2 electronic controls already installed and with FreshJet 4 and FreshJet 5 units with factory electronic controls, in single or multi-zone setups. If your thermostat is showing an error code, see Dometic and Furrion error codes.
- FreshJet 5. The 4471011652 is built for FreshJet 5 cool and heat pump systems. It doesn't include a control board.
- Heat only. The analog heat-only thermostat 9610008133 runs a furnace, not the AC.
Because the CT kits include a control board, installing one means replacing both the wall thermostat and the board in the AC, so follow the kit's wiring instructions closely. See all Dometic thermostats.
Coleman-Mach thermostats
- 9420-351: mechanical, single-stage heat/cool, 12V, with high/low fan and auto/on fan control.
- 9420A381: digital, single-stage, for heat pump and gas furnace control in Coleman-Mach heat pump systems only.
- 9430A3543: digital Bluetooth heat/cool thermostat. Setting it up? See pairing your Coleman-Mach Bluetooth thermostat.
- 9420-391: programmable heat/cool with WiFi and an app for Apple and Android.
- 9420-381: two-stage, replaces the Coleman 8330-3362.

GE and Advent
- GE: the RGRWT2B (black) and RGRWT2W (white) are single-zone thermostats for GE S Series R32 standard-height heat pump units.
- Advent: the ACTH25 Bluetooth thermostat fits Advent ACM, ACR and ACC rooftop units.
Before you blame the thermostat
A blank or dead thermostat isn't always a bad thermostat. Check that the RV's 12V system is on and the batteries are charged, and check the fuse for the thermostat circuit. If the display works but the AC doesn't respond, the problem may be in the control board or the AC itself. Our Coleman-Mach troubleshooting guide walks through the checks.
